High WSC levels can trigger metabolic issues in sensitive horses, particularly those with equine metabolic syndrome or laminitis.

ESC (Ethanol Soluble Carbohydrates)

ESC is the simpler sugar fraction. Combined with fructan, it determines starch and sugar content which is critical for horses with metabolic issues.

Optimal Levels

For horses with metabolic sensitivity, aim for low sugar hays (below 10% combined ESC+Fructan).
